My favorite band owes me a personal favor

Next week I will be tripping up to Asbury Park, New Jersey for the annual Bamboozle Festival.

I only love him a little. It isn't unhealthy.
I was very excited to see some of my favorite bands play -- Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World, Motion City Soundtrack, and, most importantly, Blink-182. A few day ago, however, it was announced that Blink-182 was unable to make the show due to drummer Travis Barker's recent tonsillectomy and guitarist Tom Delonge's pneumonia. Both tragedies. Luckily the lovely and talented Mark Hoppus seems to be in good health (I would probably be devastated if he wasn't -- he is my baby).

They also canceled the rest of their US dates. They will pick up with their European tour in June, and won't be rescheduling the canceled dates.

A lot of fans are really upset and are airing their grievances via Twitter/Facebook commenting on the guys' pages. AS THEY SHOULD. Because really, this is simply unacceptable.

As a band, they should really think about the fans. Who are they without us? They've only been around for 20 years and really should realize that their fragile place in music history could easily be jeopardized by doing this. Also, they haven't toured the US since last summer and - let's face it - that's been like a year.

Wieners.
Also, playing with pneumonia is totally not a big deal. People don't die from it nearly as much as they used to, and it's May so the weather should be fine enough for him to be safe and not die. And if it rained, I'm sure there's a cover on the stage so Tom wouldn't get wet and cold. But he's crying about it and refusing. Seriously? What a weenie.

Travis' tonsillectomy should be a non-issue. First, he doesn't sing. He doesn't need his voice. Second, he's played with a broken leg and a broken arm before. Which is totally the same thing has undergoing surgery. He tweeted something recently about feeling like he's swallowing glass. Well, no one's asking him to swallow when he drums. He can spit between songs or something. I mean really. Also, Travis survived a plane crash. If he can survive a plane crash then he should damn well be able to play a show with a sore, bleeding throat. It's just a throat.

People are also blowing up Bamboozle's Facebook about wanting refunds, as no refunds are being given for the cancellation. Before you buy your wristbands, Bamboozle says that the "lineup is subject to change" and that the tickets are "non-refundable." All that is said in the fricking fine print, though, and therefore should not be upheld.
Cute guy + cute dog = exploded ovaries

Also, Bamboozle got My Chemical Romance to replace Blink. Don't get me wrong, MCR is ok (and Frank Iero is an absolute cutie), but they should have replaced Blink with a band of Blink's caliber. You know? Green Day, Offspring.. I'd even settle for Paramore, honestly. I just don't understand it. The concert is like a week away. I'm sure that would have been plenty of time to book another big name.

The whole situation is stupid and shouldn't even be an issue. Blink-182 owes their fans these shows. It shouldn't matter how close to their death beds the guys are, because what if I can't ever buy tickets again?! UGH THINK OF ME! Also, the Bamboozle people are being such dicks for upholding the stupid "terms and conditions" that no one actually reads. Ugh.

*This post is brought to you with extreme sarcasm and complete facetiousness. As online sarcasm does not always carry over to every reader, I am adding this disclaimer which, if you know me at all, shouldn't even be necessary. I do not actually hold any of the views stated in this post, save for the fact that I find both Frank Iero and Mark Hoppus to be fine, fine specimen of the male gender. Also, thoughts and prayers are going out to Mr. Barker and Mr. Delonge for speedy recoveries.

  1. I love how the person who reblogged you obviously did not read your disclaimer and thought you were completely serious. Because, obviously, every bit of this post is 101% super serious and not at all sarcastic.

    *Disclaimer: Read Cherie's disclaimer.

    1. THANK YOU. I mean, I'm not complaining about how much my stats went up when this hit Tumblr, but the disclaimer is there.

  2. Reading comprehension is difficult for some people.

This post definitely made me laugh.

  3. Ha, I did think you were being serious for the first few sentences, but then I got the sarcasm. Sarcasm should really have its own font to help people who just don't detect it, or possibly Firefox should have an option that alerts idiots to sarcasm use on webpages so they don't complain after reading stuff

    1. I agree. I'm glad you picked up on it. I've had a few people say they didn't catch onto it so maybe it wasn't as obvious as I intended. I added some more emphasis on my stupidest points, so maybe that will help out.

  5. That's disappointing! Check out The Wonder Years! They are playing Bamboozle and might help fill the hole in your pop-punk heart! GAH! I wish I were going to Bamboozle this year!!

    1. I'll have to listen to them! There are a lot of bands that will be there that I'm either completely unfamiliar with or only somewhat familiar with. I'm always on the look out for new music though! Thanks!

    1. I like them as well. I was put off by them originally because much of their fanbase seemed to be comprised of idiots (read: teenagers), but I liked them once I finally gave in and gave them a chance. Wow. That was a long sentence.

  7. I love blink and i saw them last summer, but when I saw they were cancelling tours I thought the same things. Travis doesn't even sing! I've had tonsillitis before and my dad is a throat doctor. It's not that bad, strep is worse. and the recovery time is really nothing. Blink 182 don't forget where you came from and how you got to where you are! great post, sorry about that concert!

    1. I saw them last year too and it was awesome.

I don't know any throat doctors personally, but from what I've gathered, healing from that surgery is much more difficult and prone to complications when you are older. Plus, pneumonia is a serious thing and Tom has had a lot of other health problems in the past so I think they should take whatever time they need.

  8. This was pretty damn funny! How dare they get sick and not re-schedule!

  9. The nerve of them! I have to admit, I was very confused for the first few paragraphs...but I figured it out right around the time that you called Tom a weenie. Nicely done! The best sarcasm is always the most convincing :D I hope they all recuperate soon.
